Benefits of the Training Visa
A training visa allows temporary entry to Australia for vocational training or career development.
You can do the following internships under a 407 visa.
- Placement or License-based Training: This type of training is for individuals who are required to obtain registration, membership or license to practice in their home country or Australia.
- Structured workshop-based training to enhance skills: This training is for individuals who have been appointed by an approved temporary role assistant in Australia for a job listed on the Qualifying Skilled Occupations Register if they need structured workshop-based training to enhance their skills for that job.
- Training to improve skills or competencies: Such training is divided into three categories:
- Foreign Qualifications: This category is for students enrolled at an overseas educational institution who are required to complete practical training, research, or observation to obtain a degree or qualification. This category offers the opportunity to gain practical experience by applying for a training visa.
- Government Support: This category is for individuals who are supported by a government agency to undertake structured workplace-based internships from their home country or Australia.
- Professional Development: This category is for employers abroad who want their employees to go through professional development programs designed for organizational growth.
Note: On 19 April 2017, the Temporary Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) replaced the Skilled Labor List (SOL). Currently, there is no separate list for STSOL, but there is a combined list of eligible skilled occupations. This list will be amended on July 1, 2017, and will be updated every six months.
