Student Guardian Visa (subclass 590)
The student guardian visa (590) enables the applicant to remain in Australia as a guardian of a student under 18. This includes the right for a parent to stay the same length of time as a student with a visa. In addition, students in any other course or abroad have the option to study in the English Language Essential Course (ELICOS) for up to 20 hours per week for three weeks.
Essential Requirements for Student Guardian Visa (590)
Special Requirements: You must be a parent or relative over the age of 21 who has been designated in writing by a parent to apply for a student-guardian license. You may not bring family members under the age of 6 except under specific circumstances.
Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Requirements: If you are considering your intention to remain in Australia as a parent, you must provide proof of your status in your home country, probable status in Australia, immigration history, proof of ownership of assets your important assets Home for the nation, and other related matters.
Income: The income you indicate on your visa application must be available to financially support you and your family in Australia. Acceptable sources include grants, grants, financial institutions, or government loans. Health Insurance: You must provide proof of valid health insurance for the duration of your stay in Australia.
Identity and Relationship Documents: Documents requiring identification include your birth certificate showing the names of both parents, photo pages of your current passport, personal details, passport provided and expiration date, two recent passport photos, and proof of change of name.
Additional Terms
- The student bodyguard visa does not allow the holder to bring family members.
- If you are acting as a guardian for more than one student in Australia, you must notify the Department which student visa you wish to be associated with.
- Once you have a Student Guardian Visa, you cannot apply for any other visa.
- Work is not permitted on this visa.
- You must keep your approved overseas visitor health coverage.
- A penalty may be imposed if you leave Australia without the student you have responsibility for.
