Child Offshore Visa (Subclass 101)
The Child Offshore Visa allows children outside Australia to travel and live with their parents who are established as permanent residents, and Australian citizens. Dependents in this visa category include children, orphans, or adoptees. It is designed to help families reunite and enable the child to remain in Australia permanently, giving them the same rights to education and health benefits as other Australians
This applies if the child:
- Supported by parents or parent’s spouse
- Those who are not married
- Under 18 years old, or:
- Full-time student between the ages of 18 and 25, or.
- 18 or older and unable to work due to disability, depending on parental support
The child may also include his or her dependent children in the application.
Eligibility for Sponsoring a Child
- An Australian parent
- One has an Australian permanent resident visa or is a valid New Zealand citizen
- The child’s parent’s spouse or de facto spouse
Other contributors may include:
- A biological parent who is not currently with the child’s parents but has legal responsibility for a child under 18 years of age
- An adoptive parent who adopted a child before becoming an Australian citizen or obtaining a permanent resident visa or NZ citizenship
The use of spacetime is simple:
- If you have been to Australia before, you may need to be outside of Australia at the time of application
- You have an Australian permanent resident visa but have yet to visit Australia
If you adopted a child as an Australian citizen or permanent resident or became a qualifying NZ citizen, you can apply for an adoption visa (subclass 102).
Child Custody Requirements
To qualify for this under-18 visa, you must demonstrate one of the following
- You have obtained written consent from all persons who have legal custody of the child
- It allows for the lawful deportation of the child to the child’s country of residence
- The system is compatible with any child order in Australia

Additional Basic Requirements
The Australian immigration system has safeguards in place to protect children. An important consideration is that visas are generally not issued if a child under 18 is likely to be injured.
Other requirements include:
- Authorities can apply for a child support certificate to ensure that the
- The Australian public does not pay for the welfare of certain migrants.
- This is required to be done by request only.
- The child must meet specific health requirements, which are usually valid for one year. This applies to all dependent family members included in your visa application, regardless of whether they are emigrating or emigrating.
- Any child over the age of 16 must meet behavioural requirements. This includes issuing a police certificate to any state who has reached the age of 16 and has lived for 12 months or more in the last ten years. The police certificate is only required on application.
- The child must not owe the Australian Government any outstanding debts, or arrangements to pay these debts.
- The child may have to provide biometric information as part of the visa application process.

- Eligibility to apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible

- A new visa is required for subsequent entry.
