Parent Visa (subclass 103)
The Parent 103 visa is designed for parents whose child has established residence in Australia as an Australian, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. This visa allows these parents to stay in Australia permanently.
This visa requires parents to have their child or other qualified sponsor in Australia.
If the child is under 18, parents can help:
- The child’s spouse, if they are 18 years of age or over and are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or qualifying New Zealand citizen living in Australia
- A relative or guardian of a child, who is 18 years of age or over and resident in Australia as an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or qualifying New Zealand citizen
- A relative or guardian of the child’s spouse, if they are 18 years of age or over and are Australian citizens, permanent residents, or qualifying New Zealand citizens resident in Australia
- A local organization
Note: Currently, the validity period for a parental visa is approximately 25 years.
Eligibility Criteria
If you have a parental visa, your dependents and family members listed on the visa application are entitled to:
- Live, study and work permanently in Australia
- Apply for Australian citizenship if you meet the eligibility criteria
- Enjoy Australian health benefits
- Sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residency
- Travel to and from Australia repeatedly for five years from the date of visa issuance

- Their husband
- You or your spouse’s children or stepchildren

Eligibility criteria for this visa include:
- A child who is an eligible Australian, permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen
- Meeting health and behavioural standards
- Passing the family balance test
- To get sponsorship
- For those who supported him
Requirements to support a parental visa applicant:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Reside in Australia legally for at least 2 years at the time of submission of the visa application
For the local organization they support, they should:
- Proof of the parental visa applicant’s relationship with the child
- A written commitment from a senior representative of the organization to support the parents after they arrive in Australia
Medical and Legal Requirements
Applicants and all their family members accompanying the visa application must provide this:
- Proof of medical examination completed within the previous 12 months before submitting a visa application
- Police certificates from any state you have lived in for at least 12 months in the past ten years.
Financial Obligations to the Australian Government
Your outstanding fees must be paid in full to the Australian Government before your visa is granted.
