Contributory Parent visa (subclass 173 and 143)
Subsidiary parental visas (subclasses 173 and 143) allow parents to remain in Australia if their child is an Australian, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen with Subclass 173 visas being temporary, allowing parents to stay in Australia for up to two years. This visa cannot be renewed or extended. However, within two years of obtaining a subclass 173 visa, parents can apply for a subclass 143 visa to gain permanent Australian status.
Applicants for this visa must support a child living in Australia. If the child is under 18, financial support may come from another source:

Qualification Requirements
